The need for detailed academic studies on issues related to religions and theology led to the establishment of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of Shahid Beheshti University in 2007. The main focus here is on the study at higher levels, which are manifested in 5 specialized departments at master's and doctoral degrees. In addition, this faculty has a wide range of educational activities at the undergraduate level. The faculty is currently headed by Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Babapour (the former faculty dean was Dr. Hassan Saeedi), Dr. Ali Ghasemi, associate dean for education, and Dr. Abbas Ahmadvand, associate dean for research. The Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies has 30 associate and assistant professors and provides general Islamic courses to about 4000 undergraduate and 70 graduate students per semester.
